There are two tours available on each date below, one at 11am and another at 2pm. The tours look at the Drop Redoubt; while the Grand Shaft is open on the same days, it does not form part of the tour.
There are many stairs within the fort as well as uneven surfaces; unfortunately this makes it inaccesible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is no charge for the tour, which lasts approximately two hours. The duration of the tour can prove a bit too long for younger visitors, so please think carefully before bringing children younger than 8 years old as it can be a bit too much for them. Younger children will have much more fun on our Open Days (Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September between 10am and 5pm), when they can see the displays and the re-enactors and enjoy all the noise that goes with firing muskets and take part in drills!
Tour booking are available for the following dates:
Sunday 16th April 2017
Sunday 18th June 2017
Sunday 16th July 2017
Sunday 20th August 2017
If you wish to book onto one of the tours, please e-mail us with the number of places you wish to reserve and the date and time of the tour you wish to book onto. Please be aware that places are strictly limited to 20 per tour, so booking early to avoid disappointment is strongly advised. Please don’t just turn up without a booking as you will be refused entry.
The Western Heights Preservation Society receives no public funding and is reliant on donations for its continuing work.
